Capital University attracts students and employees who use their knowledge, skills and connections to improve their community and their world.
That's why we're excited to announce we're joining community partners like the City of Columbus, United Way of Central Ohio and more for the Columbus Volunteer Challenge 2013, a citywide collaboration to inspire, mobilize and challenge Central Ohioans to serve and create a more engaged community.
Students are encouraged to start the year off right and make a difference during the Columbus Volunteer Challenge 5 Days of Service, September 7-11, which will connect volunteers with service opportunities that fit their passions and interests.
Visit columbusvolunteerchallenge.org and click on any day to see what opportunities are available on that particular day and for more information. This is a great way to get your friends, floors and or organizations together to do a small project that, when added with all the other small projects going on, will make a huge difference in Columbus! It'll also help you get to know your city in a new way.
In addition, Student and Community Engagement, working with Phi Kappa Psi, will sponsor an on-campus drive for art and craft supplies through an organization called Caitlin’s Smiles, a non-profit organization that distributes arts and crafts kits to hospitals, giving kids an outlet for creativity and the means to heightened feelings of self-worth.
All kits made from these supplies will be donated to kids at Nationwide Children’s right down the street from Capital. Boxes will be available across campus starting Wednesday, August 21, and here is a list of items being collected:
- Drawing Pads
- Coloring or activity books
- Play-Doh or Crayola Model Magic (individual sizes)
- Writing journals or diaries
- Bags of pony beads (any color or assorted)
- Lacing for necklaces (gimp, leather, elastic, etc.)
- Foam tubs of stickers, beads or activities
- Ziplock bags to hold craft kits (snack & sandwich size)
- Gift cards for crafts (Dollar Tree, Wal-Mart, Michaels, AC Moore, Staples, Office Max)
- Family care kits gift cards (gas, phone and local restaurant)
