If you missed your prom, wished you had it to do all over again, or if you just can’t help but watch Sixteen Candles, Breakfast Club, Weird Science or Pretty in Pink every time they’re on TV, put on your bluest frost eyeshadow, your jellies and Members Only jacket, and get ready for University Theatre’s production of The Awesome 80s Prom.
University Theatre will stage the interactive theater experience, written by Ken Davenport and the Class of ’89 and directed by Capital's own Dan Heaton, Thursday, October 10, through Sunday, October 13, in Cabaret Theatre. The theatre is located in the lower level of Harry C. Moores Campus Center. Thursday through Saturday shows will be at 8 pm, and Sunday’s matinee will be at 2 pm.
It’s 1989 and the Wanaget High School Prom is in full-effect! Meet and interact with all your favorite characters from ’80s teen movies — the princess, the virgin, the spaz, the jock, the rebel, the foreign exchange student and more. But don’t expect to just sit there. You are invited to join in this audience participation event — dance, laugh and vote for Prom Queen and King.
Half improvised and half scripted, this winner of the 2006 Improv Theater Award for “Best Interactive Show” is only as fun as you make it, so put on your best '80s prom wear, crimp your hair and dance the night away!
Tickets cost $7 for adults and $5 for students and senior citizens. They’re free for students with a current Capital I.D. Call the Cabaret Theatre Box Office at 614-236-7174 to reserve tickets as early as Monday, October 7.
Seating is limited, and the show is not appropriate for children.
