The Leadership and Management major provides our students with the knowledge and skills to work ethically with people in organizations to enhance both human and organizational performance. Students who do well in this major:

• Have an interest in understanding, motivating and leading other people, as exemplified by leadership roles in high school, social or service organizations
• Are energized by helping people
• Are interesting in developing their communication effectiveness
• Are calm under pressure
• Are able to think critically
• Are versatile and adaptable
• Are good at analyzing both data and people
• Exemplify the principles of personal integrity and self-awareness
• Are curious and creative about resolving conflict, problem solving, and managing group dynamics.

The leadership and management major was developed in response to the business community's pleas for graduates who are more than just technical experts. They are looking for employees who have the qualities listed above. Leadership and management majors take coursework in all of the functional areas of business, with additional practical seminars that focus on leadership, communication, motivation, and the effective management of people within organizational settings. This program prepares versatile leaders and managers for careers such as small business management, public sector management, sales, retail management, supervisory and entry-level management positions, and human resources positions such as recruitment, training and development and employee relations. This major is also excellent preparation for many graduate programs including the MBA, and law school.
 

Our Ph.D.-qualified faculty have considerable industry experience, and they always strive to link theory to relevant real-world experiences. We strongly encourage students to obtain internships while they are enrolled, and they have the opportunity to earn course credit for these experiences.
