The Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance with Emphasis in Opera or Music Theatre prepares students for a career on stage, combining the Conservatory curriculum with a sequence of theatre courses. As a result, the aspiring vocal performer is provided theatrical stage techniques, in conjunction with vocal and general music skills. Students enrolled in this major receive private vocal study, including jazz and pop voice, dance and other academically based music courses such as music theatre history. Capital’s Opera/Musical Theatre Workshop presents a variety of major productions on campus. In addition, our students are encouraged to participate in the multiple stage productions presented by the university’s theatre department each year. Additional performance opportunities include Chapel Choir, Choral Union, Women’s Chorus and the Vocal Jazz Ensemble. Capital University and many members of the Conservatory voice faculty have professional affiliations in the region that may provide the advanced music theatre student with other opportunities for creative growth, these Include Columbus Light Opera, Opera Columbus and Actors Summer Theatre.
